The later Hexblade features are fun too, they just don't play much into the weapon wielding aspect.

Now it also means you'd need to pretty much stick with Warlock for your character for most if not all of their career since the level 12 invocation is crucial to keep up damage-wise compared to Eldritch Blast and I know that's not exactly common for Hexblade builds but it's not a bad thing, really. You'd need to play to level 17+ for Eldritch Blast to truly outscale the invocation boosted Longbow unless you multiclass into Sorcerer to throw BA Eldritch Blasts around a few times per battle but that's an entirely different topic. At level 11 you get a third blast for an average of 31.5 damage if everything hits (assuming CHA 20) but at level 12 you can take the Lifedrinker invocation so your two Longbow shots average at 31 damage if both hit (assuming CHA 20) as well.

Eldritch Blast also offers lots of potential utility by pulling, slowing and pushing targets that you can't really replicate with a Longbow, however with a Longbow you can take Sharpshooter and Elven Accuracy which boosts your damage output even further and who knows what kind of magical weapon your DM throws at you that could make even more of a difference.Įldritch Blast also takes a lot longer to outscale the Longbow than many people realise. One might think that it's redundant with Eldritch Blast, and that's true to some degree, however with Eldritch Blast you can't use Eldritch Smite for a sweet nuke and shooting a dragon from the sky for even more fall damage and so your melee friends can get to it is lots of fun. It pretty much comes down to either Greataxe for the big dice and thus big crits (don't try to rely on those though) or Halberd for reliable BA attacks with PAM, since GWM works with either weapon.Īnother thing that works surprisingly well is using a Longbow. GWM, PAM and Sentinel are the main prospects here.

So what really matters the most is feats, damage dice and what you're trying to achieve. Resistances don't really matter since it's going to be magical b/p/s damage once you take Pact of the Blade anyway. Monstrous Compendium Vol 3: Minecraft Creatures
